Account Settings - Complete Guide

Manage your personal account information, security settings, and preferences.

Overview

Account Settings allow you to manage your personal ScaleNodes account. Update your profile, configure security, and customize your dashboard experience.

Access Path: /dashboard/accounts/settings


Account Information

Profile Details

When you navigate to /dashboard/accounts/settings, you’ll see your account information.

Personal Information

Full Name

  • Your display name
  • Shown in team member lists
  • Used in notifications
  • Can be updated anytime

Email Address

  • Your login email
  • Receives all notifications
  • Used for password recovery
  • Primary contact method

Current Team

  • Active team name
  • Shows which team’s resources you’re viewing
  • Switch teams from Teams page

Account ID

  • Unique identifier for your account
  • Used for support requests
  • Cannot be changed
  • Format: acc_abc123xyz

Keep your email address up to date to ensure you receive important notifications about your services.


Updating Your Profile

Click Edit Profile

Find the Edit or Update Profile button.

Modify Information

Full Name

  • Update your display name
  • First and last name
  • Used across the platform

Email Address

  • Enter new email
  • Verification email sent to new address
  • Must confirm before change takes effect

Profile Picture (if available)

  • Upload new photo
  • Supported formats: JPG, PNG
  • Maximum size: 2MB
  • Square images work best

Save Changes

Click Save or Update to apply changes.

Verification Required

  • Email changes require verification
  • Click link in verification email
  • Old email remains active until verified
  • Can take a few minutes to receive

Security Settings

Password Management

Change Password

Find the Security or Password section.

Enter Current Password

Verify your identity with current password.

Enter New Password

Password Requirements

  • Minimum 8 characters
  • At least one uppercase letter
  • At least one lowercase letter
  • At least one number
  • At least one special character
  • Cannot be a common password

Password Strength Indicator

  • Weak (red) - Too simple
  • Medium (yellow) - Acceptable
  • Strong (green) - Recommended

Confirm New Password

Re-enter new password to confirm.

Save Password

Click Update Password to save.

What Happens

  • Password changed immediately
  • Logged out of all devices
  • Must log in again with new password
  • Confirmation email sent

Changing your password logs you out of all devices. You’ll need to log in again everywhere.

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Enable 2FA for Extra Security

Go to Security Settings

Find the Two-Factor Authentication section.

Click Enable 2FA

Start the setup process.

Choose Method

Authenticator App (Recommended)

  • Google Authenticator
  • Authy
  • Microsoft Authenticator
  • 1Password

SMS (Less secure but convenient)

  • Receive codes via text message
  • Requires phone number

Set Up Authenticator

For Authenticator App

  1. Open your authenticator app
  2. Scan QR code shown on screen
  3. Enter 6-digit code from app
  4. Verify code is correct

For SMS

  1. Enter phone number
  2. Receive verification code
  3. Enter code to confirm
  4. Phone number saved

Save Backup Codes

Important

  • Download backup codes
  • Store securely (password manager)
  • Use if you lose access to 2FA device
  • Each code works once

Confirm Setup

2FA is now active on your account.

Using 2FA

  • Enter password as usual
  • Then enter 6-digit code from authenticator
  • Or enter code from SMS
  • Stay logged in on trusted devices (optional)

Active Sessions

View Active Sessions

  • See all devices logged into your account
  • Shows device type, browser, location
  • Last activity timestamp

Session Information

  • Current session (this device)
  • Other active sessions
  • IP addresses
  • Login times

Revoke Sessions

  • Click Revoke next to any session
  • Logs out that device immediately
  • Useful if you lost a device
  • Current session cannot be revoked

Configure what emails you receive:

Service Notifications

  • ✅ Deployment success/failure
  • ✅ Service errors and crashes
  • ✅ Resource usage alerts
  • ✅ SSL certificate renewals

Billing Notifications

  • ✅ Low balance warnings
  • ✅ Payment confirmations
  • ✅ Invoice generation
  • ✅ Payment failures

Team Notifications

  • ✅ Team invitations
  • ✅ Member added/removed
  • ✅ Role changes
  • ✅ Team updates

Marketing Emails

  • ⬜ Product updates
  • ⬜ Feature announcements

  • ⬜ Promotional offers

Frequency

  • Instant (as they happen)
  • Daily digest
  • Weekly summary
  • Disabled

Critical notifications (service failures, billing issues) cannot be disabled for account security.

In-Dashboard Notifications

Notification Bell

  • Shows unread notification count
  • Click to view all notifications
  • Mark as read individually or all at once

Data Export

Request Export

Click Export My Data button.

Wait for Processing

Export is prepared (may take a few minutes to hours).

Download Archive

Receive email when ready. Download ZIP file with all your data.

Account Deletion

Delete Your Account

Warning: Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. All your data will be lost.

Find the Delete Account section at bottom of settings.

Review Consequences

What Gets Deleted

  • Your account and profile
  • All services you own
  • All data and configurations
  • Team memberships (if not owner)
  • Billing history

What Happens to Teams

  • If you’re the only owner: Team is deleted
  • If there are other owners: You’re removed
  • Your created resources remain with team

Enter Confirmation

Type your email address to confirm.

Confirm Deletion

Click Delete My Account button.

Final Verification

Check email for final confirmation link. Click link to complete deletion.

Timeline

  • Immediate: Account access revoked
  • 24 hours: Services stopped
  • 7 days: Data permanently deleted
  • 30 days: Backups purged

API Access

API Keys

Generate API Keys for Programmatic Access

Go to API Settings

Find API Keys or Developer section.

Create New Key

Click Generate API Key button.

Name Your Key

Give it a descriptive name:

  • Purpose (e.g., “CI/CD Pipeline”)
  • Application (e.g., “Terraform”)
  • Environment (e.g., “Production”)

Set Permissions

Read-Only

  • View resources
  • Get service status
  • List configurations

Read-Write

  • Create services
  • Update configurations
  • Delete resources

Admin

  • Full account access
  • Manage team members
  • Access billing

Copy Key

Important

  • Key shown only once
  • Copy and store securely
  • Cannot be retrieved later
  • Generate new key if lost

Use Key

Include in API requests:

Managing Keys

  • View all active keys
  • See last used timestamp
  • Revoke keys anytime
  • Rotate keys regularly

  • Used for displaying times
  • Affects scheduling
  • Default: Browser timezone

Date Format

  • MM/DD/YYYY (US)
  • DD/MM/YYYY (International)
  • YYYY-MM-DD (ISO)

Number Format

  • Decimal separator (. or ,)
  • Thousands separator
  • Currency display

Default Settings

Default Region

  • Where new services deploy
  • Can be changed per service
  • Affects latency

Default Plan

  • Pre-selected plan tier
  • For quick deployments
  • Can be changed anytime

Connected Accounts

Connect GitHub Account

  • Required for deploying from repositories
  • Authorize ScaleNodes app
  • Select which repos to access

Security

Troubleshooting

Cannot Change Email

Symptoms: Email update fails or verification not received

Solutions:

  1. Check new email is valid
  2. Look in spam folder for verification
  3. Ensure email isn’t already in use
  4. Try different email address
  5. Contact support

2FA Not Working

Symptoms: Cannot log in with 2FA code

Solutions:

  1. Ensure time is synced on device
  2. Try backup code instead
  3. Check if SMS was received
  4. Regenerate codes if needed
  5. Contact support with backup code

Lost 2FA Device

Symptoms: Cannot access authenticator app

Solutions:

  1. Use backup codes
  2. Use SMS if configured
  3. Contact support with account verification
  4. Provide account ID and email
  5. May require identity verification

API Key Not Working

Symptoms: API requests fail with authentication error

Solutions:

  1. Verify key is copied correctly
  2. Check key hasn’t been revoked
  3. Ensure proper authorization header
  4. Verify key has required permissions
  5. Generate new key if needed
